The Best Quote Follow-Up Sequence for Every Trade
One follow-up sequence does not fit every trade. Here's what works for HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, roofing, and cleaning.
A homeowner deciding on a $15,000 roof replacement behaves nothing like one deciding on a $200 drain cleaning. The follow-up sequence has to match the deal size, the urgency, and the decision-makers involved. Here's what we've seen work across the five biggest home services verticals.
HVAC — long cycle, financing-sensitive
6 touches over 90 days. Day 1, 3, 7 (financing info), 14, 30, 90. SMS at day 7 and day 30.
Plumbing — split by job size
Repairs: 2 touches over 5 days. Re-pipes and water-heater replacements: 4 touches over 21 days with seasonal urgency.
Landscaping — heavily seasonal
4 touches over 30 days in shoulder seasons. Compress to 3 over 10 days when the booking window is closing. SMS performs especially well on outdoor work — people are usually standing in the yard when they reply.
Roofing — high ticket, multiple bids
5 touches over 45 days. Lean on warranty length, manufacturer certifications, and financing. Don't compete on price after the first follow-up — differentiate on trust.
Cleaning — recurring is the goal
2 touches over 7 days for first-time quotes, then a separate recurring-plan offer 14 days after the first completed job. The follow-up isn't about closing the one-time — it's about converting to monthly.
